Some Exercise A Day Can Keep Colds Away
Researchers at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center have found that regular exercise can help ward off colds throughout the year.
The year-long study showed that plus size women who got 45 minutes of exercise a week (moderate intensity) by biking, brisk walking and lap swimming developed only a third the number of colds than the control group.
In the winter it can be hard to get up the motivation to exercise because of the cold weather. Before trying any exercise program or any tips, make sure you see your doctor.
Exercise classes. Check out your local fitness centers, gyms, or YMCA so that you can sweat it up during the winter months. Taking a friend or family member to join in with you can provide that extra motivation you need to not quit.
Walk. You can bundle up nice and warm and take a brisk walk outside. If the temperature is below freezing, start slow and gradually increase your time outdoors. It is harder walking in the cold, so make sure you don’t push yourself too hard.
Ice skating. If you’re not a klutz like me you could try ice skating! Ice skating is great for your cardiovascular health. Other wintry activities you can participate in are cross country skiing and sledding.
DVDs and TV. Exercise to a new cool workout DVD you just purchased in the comfort of your own living room!
