Older Men with Younger Women: Pros and Cons of Having Babies Later in Life

January 11th, 2008 by admin

Older men/younger women relationships seem to be a growing trend these days.  There are many of these relationships that don’t work, but there are also many that do.  The article on Associated Content, Should Older Men Married to Younger Women Have Children?, describes the pros and cons of a May-December relationship.  Here is an excerpt:

There are many stereotypes and misconceptions about older men and younger women relationships. A lot of people assume that the younger woman is looking for a “sugar daddy” and that the older man is looking for a “trophy wife”. Although some of these relationships are doomed from the start, there are many that marry, have children and have long, happy relationships.

Something an older man needs to consider when he dates or marries a younger woman is that she still may be of childbearing years. He needs to be prepared for the fact that he may be raising a young child in his retirement years. If you are a younger woman dating an older man, he may tell you upfront that he does not want anymore children. You need to think long and hard before continuing this relationship if you have never had any children. It can be difficult once your “biological clock” starts screaming and you start getting the intense desire to have a baby.

There are circumstances where pregnancy between an older man and younger woman happens by accident. At first, it can be very difficult for the man to realize that even though he may have grown children and grandchildren, he is going to start all over again. Plans that were made for future trips, retirement, and time together alone are put on the back burner. The older man fears he will never get to enjoy the rest of his life the way he dreamed. He may even feel trapped and resent his young wife because she is pregnant.

How Middle Child Syndrome Affects the Second Generation

January 10th, 2008 by admin

If you are ever looking for interesting articles to read, check out Associated Content’s website.  There are thousands of great articles on there that cover just about every subject you can think of.

Another article on Middle Child Syndrome was just published on AC and this one has a different slant than other MCS stories I have read.  This article talks about how Middle Child Syndrome affects the second generation - the children of the middle child.  Here is an excerpt from the article:

What hurts the most about being a middle child is not how I am treated, but how my child is treated. Middle child syndrome passes down to the next generation as well so the cycle continues. When you are the middle child and you are receiving the least amount of attention from your parents, what do you think happens to the grandchildren of the middle child? My younger sibling’s children spend the most time with my parents and because there are so many of them, and because it is stressful for my parents, my child takes a backseat. They see my child the least and I normally have to ask if my child can come and visit or if we can come and visit as a family so that my child can see the grandparents.

I know my child is loved just as I am, but the unfairness passes on to the next generation and my child is not stupid. My child sees that the cousins are getting more attention and seeing grandma and grandpa more. It hurts to see the look in your child’s eyes when they can’t understand why they don’t matter as much. It is the hurt look I’m sure I expressed when I was young.

High School Musical PlayStation 2 Game Review

January 4th, 2008 by admin

If you haven’t heard how popular the High School Musical movies are, then obviously you have been living under a rock!  High School Musical items are everywhere:  movies, CDs, dolls, clothes, purses, jewelry and video games.  If your children like High School Musical and you have a PlayStation 2 system, you will want to read this review on Associated Content:

Product Review: PlayStation 2 High School Musical “Sing It” Bundle

Here is some of what the author had to say:

I knew that this game would be a huge success in our house. What appealed to me first about the game was that the Logitech microphone was included with the game, so I didn’t have to search elsewhere for one of those. The price of the game was around $50.00, so I didn’t mind paying that considering some other games I had found were almost that much and did not have any additional accessories with them.

Chronic Illness and Weight Gain

December 31st, 2007 by admin

I read an article on Associated Content that talks about how easy it is for people who have Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome to gain weight.  As a sufferer of these illnesses, how I know that this is true.  A lot of people assume that the weight gain seen in Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue comes specifically from less activity, but there are other factors that cause a lot of the weight gain.  Hormonal issues and sleep disturbances are a big factor in the weight gain seen by these patients.

The author of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia and Weight Gain had this to say:

According to Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum, author of From Fatigued to Fantastic, Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome patients gain weight due to the hormonal imbalances, sleep disturbances and changes in activity levels. Hormonal imbalances, particularly the hypothyroidism found in CFS patients, cause the metabolism to slow down leading to weight gain. Cortisol, the “stress hormone”, is often low in CFS patients and this too can contribute to weight gain.

Sleeping properly eight to nine hours a night also helps keep the body functioning properly and the metabolism healthy. Fibromyalgia and CFS patients tend to have sleep disturbances and insomnia due to their bodies’ biological clocks going haywire. Because of lack of sleep and unpredictable sleeping patterns, weight gain is a result.

Pure Weight Loss (L.A. Weight Loss) Closes All Locations

December 27th, 2007 by admin

As a former and unhappy customer of Pure Weight Loss (L.A. Weight Loss at the time I was a customer), I can honestly say that I am happy to see these stores closing.  I feel that their program is a huge rip off.  The following excerpt is from an article on Associated Content - Pure Weight Loss Closing 400 Centers:

Pure Weight Loss released the following statement as their reasons for closing. “Fierce competition from the Internet, the introduction of Alli, the over-the-counter weight loss pill, and other commercial diet programs, combined with a difficult economic environment, have forced us to take this action.”

Pure Weight Loss/L.A. Weight Loss has been under scrutiny for the past few years for some of their sales and marketing tactics. Lawsuits have resulted due to Pure Weight Loss falsely advertising the cost of the program.

I look for many lawsuits to be filed against the company if people are not able to get the money back they already paid in advance for their weight loss program, foods, and maintenance.
