It has been an interesting week for me. As I am now one of the co-bloggers for the American Idolist blog, I have been busy this week watching A.I. more intensely than ever before! I love watching the show and I am big into music, so this new blog is right up my alley. But sometimes I wonder why in the world do I put myself through the auditions? Yes, some of them are hilarious but some of these people are just plain weird.
Yesterday on the Dr. Phil show, the subject was Internet mistakes that people make. Women were guests on the show who publish provocative photos of themselves on Facebook and MySpace. They are also posting pictures of themselves drinking, drunk, passed out, and hugging the toilet.
A substitute teacher was also on the show, saying he was fired from his teaching job because of a music video he had on MySpace that had nudity and foul language.
None of these guests seemed to think that there is anything wrong with what they are doing. As Dr. Phil tried to point out, your personal life is your personal life. But if you are in a position of authority or power, like a teacher, it does not set a good example for children.
A job recruiter was on the show saying that many of the large companies are searching online at Facebook and MySpace to see if pictures and questionable material is posted by the job applicant. If there is, these people do not even get called in for a job interview.
Watch what you put online today because tomorrow it can come back to bite you in the butt.
Over the weekend I watched a great Christmas movie on the Hallmark Channel called “The Note”. Genie Francis, who for years played the popular Laura Spencer on General Hospital, was the star of this great movie. My husband and I both watched the movie and of course, it was one of those tear jerkers! I’m not going to tel you what happened because you will want to see for yourself and I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who hasn’t watched it yet.
The Note is on again on Thursday at 9:00 p.m. EST on the Hallmark Channel. Make sure you watch it!
My son loves to watch the Disney High School Musical movies. He has watched them every time they have been on Disney - both High School Musical 1 & 2. We are even having a High School Musical birthday party for him!
I didn’t realize until my son started watching Disney a lot how many great shows & movies they have for children. As a family, we all love to watch High School Musical and Hannah Montana. Here’s a video below of my son’s favorite High School Musical song.
I was anxious to watch Dr. Phil’s show on Friday discussing May/December relationships because I am in that situation. I am always hoping these talk shows that discuss older men/younger women relationships, or vice/versa will have a positive spin to them. But it never seems to happen.
I would like to go on there and tell them that these types of relationships CAN be good and that they CAN work - my husband and I are living proof with almost 13 happy years under our belts.
Dr. Phil had on a married celebrity couple - Christopher Knight (Brady Bunch star - Peter Brady) and Adrianne Curry, the first America’s Next Top Model. Their relationship has been very public, as it was made into a reality television series for VH1 called My Fair Brady. Those two fight all of the time and their relationship is definitely toxic. But they do seem to consistently seek therapy and advice, so I guess that is a good sign.
The other couple Dr. Phil had on the show was a 38-year-old mother who was in a relationship with her son’s best friend - an 18-year-old boy. Dr. Phil described their relationship as "sick". I agree with him there. That is just too young. She admitted that she had feelings for him when he was still 17 years old and he kissed her, but she said she would not do anything physical with him until he was of legal age. An 18-year-old isn’t mature enough to be in a relationship with someone that much older.
The Dr. Phil message boards are loaded with comments on this show!
The show Rock of Love with Bret Michaels has been pretty popular on VH1 and I still wonder: Where do these people come from that they find to play on these shows?
It cracks me up the type of women that it takes to be with these rock and roll stars and to me it seems like they have to give up who they are to be in that life.
The show is now down to the final four women and two of these women are strippers. Go figure. What type of relationship is he really looking for? If he just wants someone to party with and have sex with, then that is about all he will get from these women!
Now that we have all of these extra channels on our cable television, I have been finding some very interesting, and rather graphic, shows on HBO, STARZ, and Showtime.
One show that I have found rather controversial and different is a show called Big Love. The show is about Mormon families who believe and still follow the practice of polygamy. Big Love has been nominated for an Emmy and Golden Globe.
The main characters of the show are Bill and his three wives. You can see some battle between wives as the "first" wife, Barb, struggles with sharing her husband.
As if juggling three wives weren’t tricky enough, Season Two of Emmy®- and Golden Globe®-nominated ‘Big Love’ finds modern polygamist Bill Henrickson (Bill Paxton) tackling problems outside his three-house suburban home. As a failed expansion and a suspicious employee entangle his work at Henrickson Home Plus, Bill races to find the person responsible for outing his wife Barb (Jeanne Tripplehorn) as a polygamist at Utah’s Mother of the Year ceremony. Meanwhile, back at the fundamentalist Juniper Hill compound, prophet Roman Grant (Harry Dean Stanton) sets his sights on Bill’s brother Joey (Shawn Doyle) as leverage to regain a share of the family business. Throw a pregnant Margene (Ginnifer Goodwin) and an overcompensating Nicki (Chloe Sevigny) into the mix, and Bill won’t be getting much sleep at any of his houses. Bold, funny and wholly original, Big Love continues to explore the evolving institution of marriage through this typically atypical family.
I’ve found some of the best movies on television are the Lifetime Original Movies. Even though we now have access to hundreds of channels, I find myself mostly going back to the Lifetime channel and the Lifetime Movie Network.
One movie I like in particular on Lifetime is the movie "Gracie’s Choice". It’s about a teenage girl adn her siblings whose mother is not fit to have had children. She is never around, she had five kids and each one of them had a different father, and she liked to party and sleep around over taking care of her family.
Gracie, the oldest, ends up adopting her three brothers and her mother’s parental rights are terminated. Gracie’s sister had a baby and lived with her boyfriend. It’s sad that this kind of stuff really goes on in the world.
If you are a Dawson’s Creek fan like I am, you won’t want to miss out on every season. They are all available on DVD and you can purchase them below from Amazon.com. You can watch Joey, Dawson, Pacey, Jen, Jack, Andie and their families from the beginning right through to the tearful series finale!
I think some of these will be going on my Christmas list this year!
I like to watch Dawson’s Creek. I like the story lines, although I think that in reality teens are not this intense and serious like the kids on Dawson’s Creek. Another thing I like about Dawson’s Creek is some of the music that they play. One of my favorite songs in the world that I have heard was on Dawson’s Creek and that is Feels Like Home.
