  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, if desired
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 4 - 6 slices bread or 6 - 8 slices French bread, cut diagonally about 1-inch thick

Peach Kuchen

Bran Muffins

  • 2 cups shreds of whole bran cereal
  • 2 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup raisins (optional)

Hot Potato Rolls

·       2 cups milk, scalded

·       1/2 cup sugar

·       2 eggs

·       1 tablespoon salt

·       1 cup potatoes, mashed

·       1/2 cup shortening

·       2 packages yeast dissolved in 1/2 cup warm water

·       8 cups flour (sometimes more)

Pour scalded milk over shortening, sugar and salt.  Add mashed potatoes, cook to lukewarm.  Dissolve yeast in warm water and add to first mixutre.  Then add eggs and flour.  Knead until smooth.  Let rise until double in bulk.  Shape into rolls and let rise again.  Bake at 350 degrees for 20 - 25 minutes.

Cinnamon Spiral Bread

  • 1 cup WARM water, not hot

·       1 package yeast

·       2 cups lukewarm milk

·       1/4 cup brown sugar, packed

·       2 eggs, beaten

·       1 tablespoon salt

·       1 cup raisins

·       2 tablespoons soft shortening

·       2 cups quick cooking rolled oats

·       5 1/2 - 6 cups flour

Pumpkin Peanut Bread

PUMPKIN PEANUT BREAD

  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup canned pumpkin
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 3/4 cup chopped peanuts

Cream shortening and add sugar.  Stir in eggs and pumpkin.  Stir in remaining ingredients. 

Pour into a well greased loaf pan 9 x 5 x 3 inches.  Bake at 350 degrees for 55 minutes to one hour.  Cool slightly and unmold. 

Cool thoroughly before slicing.
