I know it sounds odd, but according to this article I read, video games may be what us ME/CFS & FM patients need to help ease our symptoms. The article states that different studies have shown playing video games can be helpful to these patients because:
- Virtual reality games can reduce pain by distracting the patient’s brain.
- The games may help critical thinking skills according to the American Psychological Association’s annual convention show.
Other ways these types of games can help is to give disabled patients something to do during the day. I know how boring it can get sometimes and I love having my computer as a means of some sort of activity.
Do you play video games and does it help to take your mind off of the pain? What is yourfavorite video game? Let me know by commenting!

Hello, im 27 y old and i have fibroyalgia. I play ps3 and also on pc an mmorpg called lord of the rings online. It takes my mind of the pain and its also a great way to socialize with other people without spending to much energy going outside.

Maybe I should try this as I have Fibro, and intercistial cystitias. In my younger days I was an athlete. I did all kinds of sports, up until about four yrs ago Now most days I fell like a sloth. I would love to be able to go outside and exercise. I have learned however that there is going to be a price to pay for every time I try and do something normal.

PS3 has helped me while being housebound. It allows me to escape the pain and fill the void. I’m not as angry all the time……

I have cfs and gaming helps me out soo much, it’s probably one of the few things I can do and still enjoy when I have cfs.

I have ME/CFS – as defined by ICC and CCC. Video gaming is the worst imaginable thing. Just a couple of minutes on a site to learn spannish made me relapse for weeks. Playing solitaire makes me nauseous. FM and ME/CFS are very different diseases and need to be separated.
