I just read an article last night on ImmuneSupport about why people with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome can’t drink alcohol and it reminded me of a few “alcohol-induced” moments I have had myself over the years. The woman that the story is about on ImmuneSupport took a week to recover from her one and only hangover. Her husband got her drunk and by day four or five he was regretting it and feeling really bad. You will have to read the story by clicking the link at the bottom of this post.
I have never been much of a drinker and I can probably count the number of times I have drank alcohol in my entire life. My ex-husband drank a lot of beer, which was one of the reasons I left him, and I could never stand the smell. I did drink a beer one time after I found out I had ME/CFS. It was very hot outside, I had been working outside, and my ex-husband offered me a beer. As hot and as thirsty as I was it sounded good. I drank the beer and I immediately became sick.
My second bad experience with alcohol happened when my ex-husband’s best friend spiked my Pepsi with what I believe was whiskey. He thought it was a funny joke to play until I became extremely sick at his house.
I have had a few mixed drinks on special occasions over the years and while I didn’t get extremely sick as I did after drinking the beer and whiskey, I have never felt good and that was only after drinking one drink. I would be curious to hear from other PWCs about your experiences with alcohol.
I guess the upside to not being able to tolerate alcohol is that we never have to worry about becoming alcoholics!

I have the same thing. I used to drink but stopped when I started getting bad reactions. Then I took some strong antibiotics for two weeks and my chronic fatigue went away but a couple months later it came back! This tells me our fatigue might very well be caused by some kind of infection.
