The ACP Observer, which is a publication of the American College of Physicians, covered CFS in an extensive article in their May issue.
The article, written by Jessica Berthold was titled “Putting Chronic Fatigue Syndrome’s Myths to Bed“.
Jessica Berthold begins the article with some attention-getting words:
“Respected researchers say its a condition that can be as disabling as AIDS or multiple sclerosis. Its prevalence is greater than that of ovarian cancer, lung cancer or lupus. She goes on to interview CFS authorities including Dr. Lucinda Bateman, Dr. Anthony Komaroff, Dr. Nancy Klimas and the CDCs Dr. Suzanne Vernon.
The article was mainly written for doctors of internal medicine. The article details information on diagnosis, treatment and the always growing research on the biologic basis for the illness. Jessica also points out the importance of physician care and support by saying, “A supportive physician goes a long way.
This type of CFS coverage in a mainstream medical publication provides validation for the illness as well as insight medical professionals can bring to their patients with CFS.
