I started my exercise regime just a little over three months ago and since exercise is a controversial topic for ME/CFS & FM patients, I want to keep everyone updated on my progress.
As far as losing weight, I’m not sure if I have lost any weight because I won’t weigh myself. I get too discouraged when I don’t see the scale move and then I usually give up the exercise. My husband and my clothes are telling me that I have lost weight or inches. I would say the latter.
My exercise regime has consisted of walking and bike riding at least 5 days a week. There have been weeks where I haven’t been able to exercise five days due to my ME/CFS & FM symptoms flaring or my back being out. I am noticing the longer I go with my regime the harder it is getting to keep it up.
I notice that my legs, especially my knees, are hurting really bad and I just have an overall bad feeling – very achy. For most people the beginning of an exercise routine will cause these symptoms but for me it seems to be the opposite.
The heat and humidity have been terrible and there are days when I can’t walk the 1 1/2 – 2 miles or I can’t ride the 1 1 /2 – 2 miles. I do what I can, though. Some days I might only be able to walk 20 minutes. On bad days my bike riding is reduced to about 10 minutes.
My son will start back to school next month and I think by getting back to my routine I had before summer vacation started, and the weather cooling down, will help. Time will tell! I’m not ready to throw in the towel yet!
