The first U.S. government quarantine is in effect since 1963 for a rare strain of tuberculosis. The man who was ill, although advised to not travel (he was in Paris) because of exposing others, decided to fly back home to the U.S. anyways putting many others lives at risk.
The form of TB reported is “extensively drug resistant” and way more dangerous than this passenger claims he knew. He is currently isolated at Grady’s Memorial Hosptial in Atlanta, GA.
The CDC has been scrambling to reach all 80 passengers and the 27 crew members from the two flights he was on.
Fortunately, the other passengers and crew members exposed to this gentleman are not at a high risk for infection because tests run on him showed the amount of TB bacteria was low.
My husband and I were talking about how odd this was that this happened because we just watched a movie on the Hallmark channel, Pandemic, which was about an outbreak that spread from someone being on a plain with a rare virus. Weird.
