I went to my family doctor yesterday regarding my sleep issues or lack of sleep. I explained what has been going on to my doctor and she didn’t order any blood work and she doesn’t feel that my sleeping issues are related to hormones. She said at 39 I shouldn’t be having hormone issues yet. I’m not sure I agree with that.
I have been on Trazadone for what seems like forever to help me sleep but I have built up an immunity to it and it hasn’t been working. When I had called in to the doctor’s office the other month she increased my dosage from 100 mg. to 150 mg. but that didn’t help me sleep either.
Yesterday she said she wanted to try keeping me on the Trazadone (100 mg.) but she also wanted to add Elavil (amitriptylyn), 25 mg., along with the Trazadone. She wants to see me back in a month to see if the combination of pills help me sleep. When I go back she said she will probably schedule a sleep study.
I didn’t sleep any Tuesday night and I didn’t sleep any yesterday either although I tried. The babysitter was at the house while I was at my doctor’s appointment and I asked her to stay when I came home for a couple of hours so that I could try and get some sleep. I was awake the whole time though.
I am totally and completely exhausted. I can’t think, I am having trouble figuring out what day it is because when you are up for days at a time they all run together. Pray that the pills work.

You can definitely have hormone imbalances that young! I’ve been dealing with them since I was 26 (and had symptoms earlier than that) – just because it’s not “pre-menopause”, doesn’t mean there are other causes of imbalance.
I hope the meds work for you soon. If I can’t sleep, I at least try to meditate instead – although I know from experience, the more exhausted you are, the harder it is to control your brain AT ALL.
Sweet dreams.

First of all, get a new doctor.

What kind of doctor doesn’t order at least blood work and only pushes taking more pills? A BAD ONE!!!!
