Last Thursday night my son became extremely sick with this really nasty stomach flu that is going around. He was up throwing up all night Thursday night into Friday morning and neither one of us got much sleep until after 7 a.m. Friday morning. We did sleep a few hours then.
I held him all night, held his head and rubbed his back while he was so sick and couldn’t help but think the whole time that I would be next. It never fails – with a PWC’s immune system we get it all!
Monday night was my turn. What was ironic was that I started throwing up around the same time my son did when he had the flu. I was up all night Monday night, throwing up every half hour through Tuesday morning. I only had one spell of diarrhea so I was thankful for that. It’s bad enough having one or the other but both together really sucks.
I can’t ever remember having stomach pains with the flu before like I had this time but it was really bad. I was sick through later Tuesday morning throwing up and I was in so much pain and miserable the rest of the day. As of yesterday, I was still unable to eat anything. So far I have lost more than 5 pounds. I hope I can eat something soon. I have also been unable to sleep since I became sick for more than a couple of hours total all night.
It’s always a long recovery back for me when I get sick with something “normal” that most people get over in no time.

Hope you feel better soon. It’s so aggravating when it takes us longer than other people to recover.

I just had this same thing last night – and my doctor said earlier this month that I might have fibromyalgia. My back pain was KILLING me – and your scenario sounds like EXACTLY what happened. I didn’t have any other symptoms of the flu but throwing up every 10 minutes from 11pm to around 7:30am and diahrrea – and I can’t sleep because I’m in so much pain and a little bit of nausea still. It’s nice to know I’m not alone in this. I wasn’t sure what it even was til now – my parents said they got the stomach virus going around, but all they had was binding cramps & a little bit of an upset stomach. Do people with fibromyalgia get hit worse with diseases as a general rule?

Hi Mandy, Yes, FM and CFS patients do tend to get sick more and stay sick longer. Our immune systems are weak so it takes our bodies a lot longer to recover unfortunately. Hope you feel better soon! Thanks for stopping by! ๐

Something similar happened to me last night. I was very ill, bouts of vomiting every 2 hours. and for those who know me well, know that vomiting is my #1 Phobia. not only was I vomiting, and the spasms were every second, for 1 minute! i could barely breathe! Now, it’s late afternoon, and I have stopped vomitingo (hopefully it won’t return at night!!!!!) but I got a killer back ache. it really hurts, feels like my body is gonna split!!!!!!!!!
