The CFIDS Association of America reported last week that 80 advocates went to Washington, D.C. and took part in the training and meetings with Congress and Capital Hill staff members.
In one day, these advocates conducted 94 meetings, building support for a letter written to NIH director Dr. Elias Zerhouni, asking him to use new authority granted under the NIH Reform Act of 2006 to make CFS a higher research priority.
This letter is now circulating through the Senate and House of Representatives to secure signatures in addition to those of the sponsors and 20 collected on Lobby Day and in follow-up calls by advocates.
The Virtual Lobby Day resulted in over 5,400 messages to almost 400 Congress members, 4 designated health leaders and almost 1,400 news agencies!
